Code of Ethics

Preamble:

This code of ethics applies to my background in English Rhetoric, Journalism, and Mass Communications studies. My ethics code is indicative of my character and displays my mindset in how I view the constantly changing and developing world in which I live and work.

My Code of Ethics:

  • A motto I have embodied throughout my career is: “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you will fall amongst the stars.” I believe it is important to work hard, not only when others are watching, but to always strive for excellence by being the best you can be.
  • If at first I don’t succeed, I will try and try again until I do. I will always do my best and refuse to cut corners in order to get the job done.
  • I accept the consequences of my actions and assume responsibility for my words. It is important to learn from one’s mistakes to educate and shape one’s future character.
  •  I understand the importance of quote accuracy in avoiding plagiarism and the misappropriation of cited sources in order to maintain credibility of my work. I am an individual, unique voice to be heard and possess the capacity to generate new thoughts and ideas.
  • I value honesty, above all things, in both the personal and work environment. Without honesty, there can be no foundation for trust, dependability, and accuracy of one’s writing and character.
  • It is my belief that everyone should be entitled to determine their own identity without discrimination against  race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation,  economic class, political values, religion, or culture.
  • I respect the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and acknowledge the civic responsibility of my individual rights and privileges as a writer, with respect to “free speech, print, and press.”
